At the Grand Central Cinema on O'Connell Street, the children of Dublin, rich and poor, watch their Hollywood heroes on the silver screen. When Sylvie Pickering, from middle-class Merrion Square, meets Jem, a tenement boy, and his sister Juno they bond over their love of movies, especially those with the world famous 'Lonesome Singin' Cowboy' Tripp Hazzard. When Juno ends up in hospital, she's devastated to miss the latest comedy film at the Grando. So Jem and Sylvie hatch a plot to hijack the movie reel before it reaches the cinema and do a top-secret private showing for Juno and all the sick kids in hospital. But the boss of the Grand Central Cinema and his cranky, child-detesting chief usher have arranged for the movie stars to come to Dublin for the film's premiere - the missing movie reel puts the cinema's future in danger.
