Weathering Storms

Taylor, Alice, 1938-2025
Books, Manuscripts
This work began with a storm: Storm Éowyn. It deprived many people of heat, light and cooking facilities, and caused havoc around Ireland. When Alice Taylor went out to her garden after the storm had passed, she saw that the one-hundred-year-old apple tree, planted by Uncle Jacky - the tree that had provided shelter, comfort, beauty and food to her family and friends down through the years - lay on the ground, a broken treasure. She was devastated. Alice began to think: maybe our later years, as we grow old, are largely times of loss? Can they also be times of renewal? With her trademark warmth, Alice recalls the losses in her life and the lives of those around her, and explores how loss, for many people, lives side by side with growth and new life.
